Tank Wagon

There is nothing left to come off!

So yesterday, Ollie and I worked on the stanchion removal and final tank strap. They are all off now and then I worked into the darkness to remove all of the metal that attached the stanchion to the wagon – including the rivets.

This is another massive milestone in the progress of 1855, as it now means that nothing else is left to come off. We have completed the removal of all rusty metal and expired bits. From here on, it’s the downhill push to put it all back on. Sadly, we probably can’t do much painting until the weather gets warmer.

So far, we have found 3 holes in the tank’s body that need replacement steel. I am awaiting delivery on a new welder with a longer torch, so hopefully, I can get up high enough without lifting the welder.

I need to remove 3 nuts from the tank strap that came off and then enable the removal of 2 brackets, allowing the final bits to go off to the powder coaters.

Yesterday was one of those get your heads down and work days so not much was filmed but I did get my new drone up in the air to record the railway while it was cold, bright and frosty. Enjoy!
